Welcome to our wonderfully attractive medieval market town, full of history, interest, health, beauty, dining and shopping!
Mildenhall's retail area is centered about the hexaganol Market Cross where it’s believed Friday markets have taken place since the 15th Century and continue to this day. In this ancient part of town you'll also find many fine timber-framed buildings - worth looking out for as you shop.
A Brief History
Mildenhall is the finding place of one of the UK’s finest 4th Century Roman silver hoardes and has a deep mediieval history; to get a taste of this try a tour of Mildenhall Museum.
Looking for an angelic visit? This town is home to what is considered one of the finest churches in Suffolk; St. Mary’s Church, located a stone throw from the Market Cross.
Mildenhall offers a good selection of local shops in both historic and attractive surroundings. Laying on the banks of the River Lark, home to many species of animal, flora and fauna, the town can boast plenty of river side walks to choose and tranquil places to while away the time after a trip around town.

What To Do? There's a wealth of interests to be indulged here from medieval history, angling, plane spotting and greyhound racing to shopping, market days, swimming, football, stock cars and country walks.
Driving in to town? Head towards Mildenhall Swimming Pool. Located alongside is our largest car park that's conveniently close to the playground, Jubilee Center, toilets, town center and the picturesque river and Jubilee fields.
Taking the bus? You'll arrive at our new bus shelter opposite the precinct, from here it's easy to find your way. Inside the new bus station you'll find literature about Mildenhall and district. Taxi's can also be hailed from this area making it very convenient place for visitors to get about.
Looking for a night out? Mildenhall's Taxis can take you to and from home to town - this way you can check out the pubs and bars that spread from the center of town out in to the neighbouring villages. Mildenhall History
A Famous Find...
Roman Treasure Hoard
The Mildenhall Treasure is a major hoard of Roman silver objects discovered in 1943 and now in the British Museum with replicas in Mildenhall Museum, and is believed to have been buried in the 4th century.
The treasure includes some of the finest surviving examples of Roman silversmithing, including the mid-4th century Great Dish of the Mildenhall Treasure which measures 605 mm in diameter and weighs 8256 g. The dish glorifies Bacchus and is decorated with a wide band showing the effects of wine on various gods and heroes. An inner band of nereids surrounds a foliated head of Acoetes. The dish was discovered with over thirty other similarly decorated banquetting items: silver platters featuring Pan and maenads, a covered bowl with a frieze of centaurs and wild animals, as well as numerous bowls, ladles and spoons. The treasure is thought to be of Continental or North African origin.
