Christmas Hill Farm
Station Road, Lakenheath, Brandon, Suffolk. IP27 9AB.
Christmas Hill Farm (CHF) sells it's very own Rare Breed beef and lamb that is reared to excellent welfare standards on a 700 acre farm on the edge of Lakenheath.
CHF personally select suppliers based on three criteria: location, ethics, and of course taste! There are normally food samples in the shop - please pop in to a taste what they have to offer.
Christmas Hill Farm offers its patrons a quality of product that we believe can't be matched by supermarkets or national chains.
Christmas Hill care for their animals well being at every stage, they do not use intensive methods; do protect rare breads and farm with nature constantly in mind - and you can taste this difference in the meat!
VM highly recommend this indie.
"At Christmas Hill Farm our ethos is simple: offer great-tasting, local produce"

Rare Breed Sheep
About Our Sheep
Whitefaced Woodland
Native to South Yorkshire, where it was developed over 200 years ago, the ‘Woodie’ is now one of the Rare Breeds of sheep that is being watched over by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust. It is in the ‘vulnerable’ category as there are fewer than 900 ewes in the UK registered flock.
It has many qualities that are useful in the production of top quality lamb and mutton. The ewes have good mothering ability with often with a 200% lambing ratio. However, its large size, the presence of horns and the slow maturing of the lambs are probably responsible for its going out of fashion – and becoming a Rare Breed. Conversely, these very same qualities are what give such high quality meat and the character that makes the breed such fun to keep.
Portland
Though meat from the Portland is in relatively small joints, the flavour is renowned for its lean sweetness and some customers ask only for Portland meat. Our Portland Lamb and Mutton is much sought after and is a seasonal addition to our meat supply due to the slow maturing nature of the breed.
Jacob Sheep
The Woolpit Flock of Jacob Sheep has been in existence since 1983.
Of course, every year, there are lambs that are not good enough to sell for breeding. These sheep are kept for at least a year so that they have a long life; during which they are relaxed and stress free as they graze our water meadows. This content and well fed existence means that the resulting meat is tender and full of flavour because it has had time to develop properly.
Our Farm Shop and Farmers’ Market stall will be offering Jacob lamb from time to time so it is worth looking out for it – especially in the Spring when the sheep will be about one year old when they go to the abattoir.

The South Devon
Rare Breed Cattle
About Our Cattle
Belted Galloways
Belted Galloways (or ‘Belties’ as they are affectionately known in the cattle world), have been part of the Baker farming enterprise for many years. The acquisition of Christmas Hill Farm brought the opportunity to expand this attractive and eye catching herd. It was our luck that, at the same time, Mrs Sheila Clarke of Dorset had decided to part with her herd so the “Lagan” herd of Belted Galloways travelled up to join the Woolpit cows at Christmas Hill. The combined herd now numbers about 30 and heifers are already in great demand.

Longhorn
Longhorn meat is renowned for its texture, flavour and succulence across the whole range of cuts and joints – due to the ‘marbling’ in the lean meat without excess external fat. This is particularly enhanced by the slow growing process with no forcing to finish at an early age, as in some continental breeds.

The South Devon
This is one of the largest of the native British breeds and is renowned for its placid nature.
At the farm we were looking for large numbers of mouths to eat the wide acres of grass at Christmas Hill, our neighbouring Elvedon Estates had taken a decision to sell their large herd of South Devon cattle. This was forced on them by the restricted grazing allowed under an environmental scheme.
It suited us both that the 200 cows and calves should make the two mile trip from one farm to another, so the Elvedon South Devons joined the Longhorns and Belted Galloways on the farm.
