Lakenheath Schools were built in 1878. The Victorian front of the present school looks very much as it did when it was built apart from a couple of flat roof additions, a front entrance porch, and a bell tower which was blown down in a storm.
Up to 1943 there were in fact two schools, one for the Infants and one for older children. When one of the Head teachers retired the schools were joined and have remained one ever since despite changes to the age ranges, first from 13 down to 11, then 9 years old
A modern extension was added in 1969 to cater for the growing population.
Then this further extension,(pictured right) accommodating our early years children was completed in September 2004.
We have just bought some willow trees (paid for by the Friends Committee from fundraising) to make wigwams and tunnels for play and sun protection
We have recently purchased some exciting new play equipment for the school field, which the children are enjoying immensely .
The grounds contain a very large Environmental Garden with two ponds, ponds, log and brick piles and a wide range of plants.
The school has generous grounds and although it is bordered by housing estates there is a rural feeling of spaciousness. The grounds include an outdoor swimming pool, used during the last half of the Summer Term ,three playground areas for Early Years , Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, a large field area with climbing equipment and football pitches.
The School Emblem.
It was created by a Local Doctors daughter several years ago. It incorporates what the village is renown for. The rabbit symbolises the acres of Warren land to the east of the village and the carrot represents this is a farming community, with many farmers specialising in carrots
Our School is one of nine Primary Schools within the Mildenhall Pyramid and caters for the
